Coupon was “redeemable by the bearer for $32.50 IN GOLD COIN” and originally part of a $1,000 bond certificate issued by the Flatiron Building Corporation in 1910 and due to be paid during the Depression years of the 1930s. It was never cashed in. I presume that the corporation defaulted on this bond payment in the depth of the Great Depression. However…so far as I know the Flatiron Building is still “alive and well” at 5th Avenue and Broadway, and is very much “in the black” commercially. That being the case, it’s just possible that that this bond coupon might still be redeemable for $32.50 — plus interest accrued at 6 1/2% over more than 110 years! Not that you’d ever part with it. You’d be losing the collectible of a lifetime! And a little piece of Flatiron Building history!
